BANGKOK
If you live in Asia, Bangkok is the perfect weekend getaway. Vibrant, intense, cheap and packed with things to do. Two days is short but enough to see most of it.
Getting around: Grab Scoot. Fast, cheap, cuts through traffic.
Hostel: Comfy Bed, very good and very central.
Day 1
Start the day by the river. Wat Arun first, then head to Wat Pho via ferry or Grab Scoot to see the giant reclining Buddha. From there, walk to the Grand Palace, allow a couple of hours. Finish the afternoon with a boat tour on the Chao Phraya river.
→Lunch at Kratong Thong: very good pad thai.
Evening: catch a Muay Thai fight at Rajadamnern Stadium. It’s fun even if you don’t know anything about the sport.
→Dinner at Café des Stagiaires: proper French bistro food if you’re craving something familiar. Good spot.

Day 2
Morning day trip out of the city, which we booked on Get Your Guide. Maeklong train market first: a train runs right through a food market, and vendors fold back their stalls at the last second. Then the floating market nearby. Both touristy but fun.
Back in Bangkok: wander through Chinatown and try some street food.
We also went to Chatuchak for vintage shopping, and there’s a night market right next to it, great for souvenirs.
We finished the night at Tichuca rooftop that looks like the Avatar tree.
