LANZAROTE
I honestly didn’t expect much from Lanzarote but I was genuinely surprised. It feels like landing on another planet. The volcanic landscape is unlike anything I’d seen before, and there’s actually plenty to do. For a long weekend or up to a week, I’d recommend it without hesitation.

How long?
Minimum 4 full days. One week is ideal if you want a relaxed pace. We’d typically visit in the morning or afternoon, then enjoy the beach or pool for the rest of the day.
Getting around
Rent a car, it’s essential. The island is easy to drive and you won’t be able to see everything without one.
Where we stayed
Hotel Finca Rural José Manuel, centrally located, lovely pool, and a kitchen. Having a kitchen matters, eating out every day gets expensive, and the food on the island is nothing to write home about.

★★★ Must-do
Parque Nacional de Timanfaya
Absolutely insane, the highlight of the whole trip. You explore by bus tour, which feels unusual at first, but the scenery is jaw-dropping. Arrive early, before everyone else, to avoid queuing for the bus.

🏘 Punta Mujeres
Charming fishing village with natural volcanic pools, a great spot for a swim.

🥾 Caldera Colorada + Caldera de los Cuervos
A short hike around volcanic craters.

🌅 Playa Papagayo
A beautiful bay, especially worth it for sunset.

★★ Worth a visit
🌵 Jardín de Cactus
A lovely cactus garden designed by César Manrique, it is worth a visit.

🏖 Playa de Famara
A beautiful wild beach with cliffs, popular for surfing.

🪨 Grietas de Montaña Blanca
Walk through dramatic volcanic cracks, unique and very photogenic. On your way, drive through La Geria wine valley : vineyards growing inside volcanic craters, fun to see from the car.

🌊 Charco Verde + Playa de Montaña Bermeja

★ Nice but not essential
🏛 Fundación César Manrique
Interesting if you’re curious about the architect who shaped Lanzarote’s aesthetic.

🏙 Arrecife
The island’s capital, worth a little walk along the lagoon and the seafront promenade.

🗺 Village of Haría & Mirador de los Helechos

🤍 Teguise
A charming little village, worth a stop for a coffee and a wander.

Where to eat:
🍽 Casa Morelino: great Italian restaurant.
☕ Mura: to take a coffee.
🥞 Bonbon Café: popular brunch spot.
